All Saints’ Churchyard
All Saints has a delightful Churchyard which is a place of peace and tranquility for everyone, particularly those in the Village. Since All Saints’ was first consecrated in 1843, some 2,500 people have chosen to be buried here – including those killed in wars – and there are many treasured memories of them.
Several years ago, the Parochial Church Council (PCC) became aware that it was proving increasingly difficult to find space for new graves and so decided that action was necessary.
- Consultations and notices about our churchyard have been in place since 2018
- The churchyard has been used for burials for the better part of 200 years and, sadly, the PCC (as the body responsible for it) has had to accept that the churchyard cannot decently accommodate new gravespaces. An application was made to the Ministry of Justice for a Formal Order to discontinue burials in new grave spaces.
- This Order was approved and the churchyard is now closed to new burials.
- Burials are still possible in existing family graves where they are already double or triple depth.
- Cremated remains can still be interred in our memorial garden.
- Our churchyard will still be available for our community, and we welcome all to visit it as usual. It will continue to be a place of prayer, reflection and peace as it has been for the generations before us.
